-sun screen

Feel free to bring a tape recorder if you like.

The magnificent Snake River Canyon in Southwest Idaho was created 15,000 years ago by the great Bonneville flood. The deluge left sheer basalt walls and deposits of boulders of all sizes worn smooth by the tumbling waters.

Later, early Native Americans inhabited the canyon, taking advantage of its moderate climate and abundant fish and game. They also used many of the numerous boulders as a canvas for their art work.

The miners and settlers followed. Some were after the riches left in the gravel deposits along the river bank; others were looking for a place to raise crops and a family.

Birds of Prey Expeditions has a special interest in the history of the Snake River Canyon. Along the way, our guides will not only acquaint you with the history of the canyon, but also the geology and wildlife found in this high desert eco-system. Special attention is given to raptors found nesting on and soaring above the canyon walls. This is an experience that truly is educational AND fun!
