A
typical field trip begins by meeting in Kuna. Normally, the school
provides a bus and we provide the walk-on guide. On the way from
Kuna to Swan Falls Dam, we make several stops to view raptors
and other wildlife and talk about the ecology of the National
Conservation Area.
Swan
Falls Dam, the park administered by Idaho Power Company, makes
a nice spot for the students to eat their lunch and use the restroom
facilities.
After
lunch we board our boats, which are large, comfortable, and safe
for a trip up the river. On the boat trip we explain the forces
that formed this magnificent canyon, and discuss the plant and
animal life that exists on the river. We return to the dock in
time to get everyone back on the bus and back to your school within
the confines of a normal school day.
The
cost is $15.00 per student, with one adult per 10 students allowed
at the same price. Any other adults are welcome at $30.00 per
person. These prices include all taxes, use fees, and fuel surcharges.
At this cost, we require a minimum of 40 students in order to
do a field trip. However, if your class is not of this size, don’t
give up. We can usually combine your class with other smaller
classes in order to make up a trip. We can also provide bus services
at an additional charge, if arranged in advance.
A
$100.00 deposit is required to reserve a trip, with the balance
payable in one check at the initial meeting in Kuna on the day
of the trip.
The
normal season for field trips is April and May. However, we can
arrange trips at any time of the year (weather permitting), based
on your needs and desires. We can gear the trip for any age group
from grade school through high school advanced classes. Some of
the schools that have been out with us (most of which come every
year) are Whitney, Shadow Hills, Riverstone, Liberty, Koelsch,
and the Fish and Wildlife Zoology Class from the Boise School
District.
